Where do I measure from?
Most
customers prefer shutters that are mounted within the window opening.
This is referred to as an 'inside mount'. For inside mounted shutters,
measure between the side recesses for the width and from the inside
edge of the top recess to the window board for the height.
When the recess (the space from the face of the interior wall
to the existing windows) is not deep enough to accommodate shutters
or you wish the shutters to cover over the entire window opening,
we suggest you select an 'outside mount'.
For outside mounted shutters, please add 100mm to the measured width
dimension.
When measuring a window opening, please measure in 3 different
places for the width and height. This is to check that the window
opening is square or if it has a bow in it.
Measuring Tips
Use a steel measuring tape and ask someone to hold one of the
ends for you. Make sure the measuring tape is horizontal when measuring
the width and vertical when measuring the height.
Please measure every window opening you wish to have shutters in.
Quite often windows appear the same size but in practice they very
rarely are.
Is my recess deep enough for an inside mount?
The louvres used are 65mm (2½''). They can protrude 12mm
(½'')beyond the recess when fully opened, so your recess
will need to be at least 50mm deep.
If your recess does not have this depth, you will probably need
to go with an outside mount.
What if my window opening is not square?
If after measuring your window opening in several different places
you find they are not square, enter the smallest dimensions in the
request quotation form. If our quotation is acceptable then we will
measure the opening for you and work out any adjustments that may
be necessary.
Do I allow for a hanging frame when measuring?
No need to as we make allowances for the hanging frame when calculating
the finished size of your shutters.
Submit the full opening sizes to us. Any mounting hardware and frames
are included in the price.
How many shutters should there be in each opening?
As every shutter is custom made to suit each individual opening,
you can have any number within any particular opening.
However there are a few things you should consider
An even number of shutters will be aesthetically pleasing to the
eye.
The more shutters in an opening, the less visibility you will have.
Where the shutters meet, you will have two stiles reducing light
and view.
Individual shutter panels should not exceed 500mm in width and
2,450mm in height.
